Ted Gaudet

Ted Gaudet is long past what would be considered retirement age but is actively helping other retirees remain in the workforce with the Retirement Employment Agency in Moncton, New Brunswick. Ted also serves on the boards of Atlantic Ballet and Enviro Plus.

In the past Ted served two terms as a city councillor for Dieppe, NB. He also operated a consultancy business for ten years and served as Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency and as a Senior Executive with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Louise Gilbert

At 81 years old, Louise Gilbert from Moncton, NB, is affectionately known as a Silver Warrior by those who appreciate her dedication to the community. She volunteers at the hospital, makes quilts for patients, and leads an active lifestyle through chair yoga, walking at the track, and skating. Louise also serves as the front desk manager at the Dieppe Arts and Culture Centre and was the Chair of the Mayor’s Seniors Advisory Committee for over 10 years.

When someone mentions they are retiring, Louise responds with, “What are you retiring to?” Her question reflects her belief in staying active and engaged in all aspects of life.

Elaine Holmstrom – Hopewell Hill, NB

Elaine Holmstrom is an 84-year-old who runs a full time baking business and bed and breakfast in New Brunswick. In the summer, Elaine makes over 100 pies a month while still entertaining guests and making them a hearty breakfast. She credits her longevity and strength to good genes, strong faith and finding something she loves to do.

Pete Mosley – Victoria, BC

“Pete (Mose) Mosley moved to Victoria, BC, in 2015 after being saddled with a medical error that left him visually impaired. However, he continues to work primarily with start-up organizations, providing communications and strategy consulting.

Additionally, he is the proprietor of www.onedegree.ca, a popular Canadian digital marketing blog that celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023. Although he no longer performs live or tours with ensembles, he devotes his time to writing, recording, and playing music. An avid golfer and cyclist, he enjoys these ‘activities-for-life!’ (www.themose.ca).”

Irma Vandenburg

In 2023 Irma will turn 87. She has been manager of her local food bank for many years and is a very active volunteer who can be found organizing shelves, bagging items and being very involved in the operation. She is very active in her church, singing at various functions and enjoying friendships she has developed there. Irma was a member of the Lions Club when it was active in her community.

Irma doesn’t know what it means to slow down. She can still be found working in her garden and doing chores. She is definitely a prime example of a Silver Warrior.

Lesley Sheppard – Toronto, ON

Lesley runs an organizing business helping people clear the clutter in their lives. She loves nothing more than attacking a messy closet. It keeps her active physically and mentally. Lesley also loves walking her dog Bily on the beach near where she lives in Toronto and hiking when she gets the opportunity. She is a 70 year old Silver Warrior.

Elaine Weaver – London, ON

Proving age is just a number, at 78 Elaine continues to manage Precision Plating in London, Ontario in Canada. She recently travelled to Scotland to hike the west Highland Way with her god-daughter and sister. She gets her daily exercise walking her dog several times a day.

Derek Lackey – Alma, NB

At 68 Derek continues to operate a global Privacy Agency he created to help organizations re-think their practices when using individual’s personal information. He lives in Alma, NB with offices in Toronto and the Los Angeles area. Derek was a Subject Matter Expert, part of the Canadian delegation who wrote the ISO 31700 Privacy by Design for Consumer Products that was launched in Feb 2023. He speaks at conferences and writes about privacy, building trust and coming into compliance with these tough new data protection and privacy laws around the world. Derek loves to golf as often as he can and plays a modest game of Pickleball. He is the current Chair of the Response Marketing Association based in Toronto, Ontario.

Adrienne Sharp – Alma, NB

Adrienne is the Founder of Silver Warriors. She believes people over 65 should be recognized for their strength, wisdom and endurance. At 69 she continues to work full time as a video producer/writer, hikes the trails in Fundy National Park and surrounding area on a daily basis while pursuing hobby photography. She also golfs and plays Pickleball a couple of times a week. She is on the Board of the Friends of Fundy and The Alma Collective, a committee that organizes events in Alma, the small fishing village that is one of New Brunswick’s leading tourist areas.

Pat Martin – Dennis Beach, NB

Pat Martin, is a 72-year-old widow who manages her large property with extensive gardens and is heavily involved in hiking, curling, cross-country skiing, crafts and many community activities including volunteering at the local food bank.

She can be found on her on her property wielding her chainsaw to remove damaged trees downed by Hurricane Fiona, on the rink at the local curling club, or interacting with community members at the local Chase the Ace draw and/or working at the food bank.
